  1. Reports:
  2. President’s Report: It’s been a year now and I can much better appreciate how ideas come much faster than action.

The Society still has its office at the historic Craigflower Schoolhouse, sharing the space with the Japanese Learning Centre, am intensive Japanese preschool to whom we sublet their space.  We have tidied up the office space over the past year and worked hard on updating and digitizing the archives.  It is our goal this year to have our archives fully digitized and accessible through our website while further enhancing our archives viewing room, library, and office equipment to provide an onsite research space for those interested in stopping by and using these resources.  We are also actively linking up with other regional archives to provide a comprehensive coverage of Victoria and the CRD’s history.

Our auxiliary historic photographs website is now also online and fully searchable for those interested in researching or simply viewing photographs of our built heritage.

Back to how I opened with ideas vs action, we are in the process of revitalizing our mission and membership to see our Society remain active into the next decade with the next generation.  The Society has built up a great office space and healthy budget with which we are looking in new directions with how to put to best use.  Some ideas that have caught interest include revitalizing the much-enjoyed tours of the past to increase membership engagement and reengage with the BC Heritage Fair Society to keep our heritage alive in the youth of today.

We are also doing our best to keep an eye on how our built heritage is being managed, maintained, and sometime redeveloped, documenting those battles that we do eventually loose but keeping a record for time to come.

As we launch into 2024/25, we the board reach out to you the membership to remain engaged with us, let us know what you might like to see or have us take action on and together, do what we can to keep our built heritage being important, respected, and enjoyed.  Please also consider joining us on the board as we shape our future path moving forward.

Thank You
